The NBCP 6th Annual Training Meeting is designed to educate NBCP grantee States on how to improve their background check programs for long term care (LTC) providers and facilities through information sharing. It is also designed to provide information to non-participating States interested in establishing LTC background check programs. This training is part of the technical assistance CMS provides to States under the Affordable Care Act, which requires the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to establish a nationwide program for long term care facilities and providers to conduct background checks on a statewide basis on all prospective direct patient access employees.

Grantee States are required under the terms of their grant to send three attendees to the NBCP Training Meeting, using NBCP grant funds. States may send more than three attendees; however, the States will have to fund the additional people. Non-grantee States are invited to this training as well.

Visit the 6th NBCP Training Meeting page for more information.

Prior NBCP training

In the past, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has held four national meetings for the NBCP. These meetings were open to both NBCP participating grantee States and States that have not yet joined the NBCP (non-grantee States).

The most recent meeting provided information about the NBCP programs currently being implemented by the grantee States. Representatives from grantee States, CMS, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, and CNA (CMS' contractor to provide technical assistance to the States) were in attendance to discuss the NBCP.
