Technical Assistance

Technical Assistance

Step 1 - State submits initial request by calling or emailing their State Liaison. Step 2 - State and CNA review and discuss the scope and breadth of the request. Step 3 - State submits a formal TA Request using the TA Request form. CNA verifies the submitted request. Step 4 - CMS reviews the submitted request for compliance and concurrence with scope and scale of the National Background Check Program. CNA and State are notified of approval by email.

To help States implement their background check programs, CNA is providing technical assistance (TA) to States. The TA includes State-specific support from experienced authorities in specialized fields of expertise. This support can be as simple as providing answers to questions, or as involved as providing ongoing assistance to develop new processes or IT capabilities.

Starting the TA support process takes four steps:

Step 1
The State submits an initial request by calling or emailing its State Liaison. The State can also send an email to the State Liaison mailbox at StateLiaison@cna.org.

Step 2
The State and CNA review and discuss the scope and breadth of the request. This step includes defining the State’s need and identifying the appropriate functional area(s) of expertise that will be needed and the amount of work requested. CNA may provide a written description for the State to review. States need to work with CNA before moving to Step 3.

Step 3
The State submits a formal TA Request. CNA and CMS verify the submitted request.

Step 4
CMS reviews the submitted request for compliance and concurrence with the scope and scale of the National Background Check Program. CMS notifies CNA and the State of approval by email.
